Why I Joined the Oregon State Tenants Association (OSTA)

Some of you may know me from Manufactured Homeowners for Change, Oregon. After a lot of soul-searching, I’ve decided to join the Board of Directors for OSTA—and I want to share why.

Over the past year and a half, another tenant and I have made nearly 300 calls, meetings, and focus groups. We’ve sat down with staff from our Senators, Representatives, the Governor’s office, and organizations like CASA, AARP, and other advocates for affordable housing and senior rights.

In nearly every one of those meetings, OSTA came up.

People know OSTA, they trust OSTA, and they refer people to OSTA when it comes to protecting the rights of those living in manufactured and floating homes.

I realized:

This is OUR organization—whether we’re paying members or not.

OSTA is the only statewide group in Oregon focused specifically on us.

But here’s the hard truth:

Over the last year or so, OSTA has been run by just a few volunteers—people with full-time jobs, people managing serious health challenges—yet they continue showing up, answering calls, researching Oregon law, and doing their best to help.

Meanwhile, technical issues and mail delays have made it even harder to keep up. But the commitment is still there. We volunteer because we care.

And that’s where YOU come in.

Want to make a difference?

Want to help grow membership or share flyers at your park? We need you.

Can’t volunteer? Your membership dues help us fight for your rights.

You may not think you need OSTA today… but the next legislative fight or issue with your park manager could change that.

If you’ve got ideas, solutions, or just the energy to help—step off the sidelines and into the game.
