We’re homeowners, not cash cows—and this herd is pushing back.
That’s exactly why the Twin Cedars Advocacy Team has been showing up in Salem week after week during this legislative session.
This same group stood shoulder to shoulder with many other homeowners last year to support Oregon House Bill 3054, and we did it!
This year, the Twin Cedars team has had as many as 20 homeowners “hoofing” it up to Salem, filling the halls and hearing rooms with an energy legislators and lobbyists couldn’t miss.
Most of the group had never been involved in the legislative process before. They quickly learned it starts with being friendly, showing up with a smile, and wearing comfortable shoes. They also discovered that not all parking meters in Salem are created equal, though a few in the group have now become unofficial Salem parking meter experts.
Of course, there are a few more steps to gaining support from our legislators and securing a meeting with a Representative, Senator, or their staff. But we can help you with that.
During this legislative session, Twin Cedars advocates were in Salem at least twice a week, representing manufactured homeowners living in manufactured home communities across Oregon. They were there for YOU. They committed their time and resources, and they quickly became a force to be reckoned with.
Their goal was simple:
Make sure decision-makers in Salem know who they are, recognize their faces, and understand they represent manufactured and floating homeowners across Oregon.
And it worked
Legislators now know that homeowners show up. They know we support the bills they sponsor, and it’s clear our dedication has been noticed.
Just as important, the relationships built along the way allowed advocates to talk directly with legislators about the need for real enforcement of tenant rights, and why enforcement matters. Without enforcement and a clear path to resolution, tenant protections are nothing more than words on paper.
They also shared something many homeowners are experiencing even with a reasonable reset rate, homes are not selling, or they are selling far below their true value. Every time the park owner increases the reset rate, the value of our homes goes down.
Showing up works
The Twin Cedars Advocacy Team is proof the process works.
Now imagine the difference if more homeowners joined them.
Bills don’t write themselves.
They don’t pass without support.
We’re not cash cows, time to close the barn door on that thinking!
Thank you, Twin Cedars Advocacy Team, for your dedication and for helping improve the quality of life for manufactured and floating homeowners in Oregon.
And we have to mention: while in Salem, the Twin Cedars team ran into homeowners from other communities as well. We’d love to see your photos and hear your stories too, please share them with us!
What if just one homeowner from every manufactured home community in Oregon showed up in Salem? That’s over 1,000 homeowners. Picture it.
The halls would be filled with hundreds of homeowners who care about protecting their homes and their rights.
We’re homeowners, not cash cows….we deserve transparency and accountability.
